Enterprise Mail Filtering and MX Defender
We spent months
deciding which filtering solution we would deploy. Our selection was Fort Systems Ltd.
Their expertise was unmatched, the original authors of the
open source project
MailScanner
protecting 1 billion emails everyday. We required
the ability to offer our
mail filtering service to most any mail server in
the world whether it is hosted in our network or
not. Our demands for a product were extremely rigid.
Our intent was to offer a truly
flexible efficient package, which supports features
like
Spam Assassin,
Razor,
DCC,
Pyzor, and Dynamic Bayesian indexing from our
pool. Unlike many providers one size fits
all approach to filtering. We required a easy
method of releasing quarantined email, which might
prove to be a false positive. Though a false
positive is rare, the solution should be easy and
quick.
We retain a quarantine for each user for 15 days.
Also any user must be able to white-list &
black-list any sender, this feature is paramount! This is something AOL, Comcast,
and ATT seem to have overlooked with their choice of
products.
As a bundle partner for SmarterMail, we believe it is a
excellent mail server. However we have observed the spam and virus
removal were not on par, since things like spam
assassin simply do not function as well on windows
servers. This is certainly not the fault of
SmarterMail and while we have offered Declude in the
past we have found this to be a serious burden as
well. The solution, work out side of the mail servers,
which allow us growth and reduces over head to each
mail server.
We have created a roadmap
below outlining the steps your email goes through
from the point it reaches our firewall. Our 64 bit
multi-server cluster solution guarantees that your
messages will move through this process very quickly.
Also by using these servers specifically for mail
filtering we will reduce the number of emails which

Quarantine Access
: You will have access to the Quarantine
store on a per user or domain
administrator basis. Per user reporting on the number of
intercepted emails if you wish.
Set it and let it learn
: You can white-list or black-list
though a black list is typically handled
as it learns. We assure that if you have
a problem sender you have the control to
assure their mail passes no matter how
poorly configured their mail servers may
be.
Very accurate
with spoofing : We have heard
claims that many bits of software could
see and react to a spoof yet it has been
our observation this is rare. We can
confirm it works well with our
protection model. It is a very hard
thing to do but this model is the only
one we can confirm works well.
Anti Virus :
Virus fears are removed with our effective
method of filtering out viruses. Our firewall
deep packet inspection as a first level
of defense. Our second level is during
filtering anti virus and anti-spam
processes using command line looking
inside attachments again. The third
layer is at the mail server itself.
Anti-Phishing :
We look deep inside each email to trying
to remove phishing scams as well as the
many other checks to determine the
legitimacy of each email you receive.
