Win 2008 R2 File Server has "automatic" defrag every afternoon?
Question:
I am getting an event log event 258 every afternoon at 2pm "Defrag analysis" on every drive on this W2K8 R2 box.
This is a File Server and the time that this runs is in the afternoon when most users are runnig open files.
I cannot find where to disable or reschedule this event.
Answer:
Open the task scheduler in Windows server 2008 R2 from Start>administrative tools expand to Task scheduler library>Microsoft>Windows>Defrag, in the upper right window you should see the default created task for it.
Feel free to modify the task to suit your own needs.
This task is created automatically from the system during installation.
